Women's Cricket

They say the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world, and that same hand now holds a bat and graces the crease in cricket. Today cricket is one of the few sports in which women can achieve on an equitable level with men, compete at national level, succeed in global competition and contribute to development and skills transfer at a local level. No longer is brute strength needed to stroke a boundary, or a fastball to bowl a wicket. Woman have been known for centuries to catch better than men in the game of life, and today the levels of participation call for a woman’s nurturing skills and renown support. Attention to detail in scoring, multi-tasking on the field, organisation in administration, calm management skills gleaned from generations of controlling uncooperative families members, tactical strategy when playing the field, or keeping everyone together as a team are the unique skills that women bring to the sport of cricket. Cricket needs women at player level, management, administration, coaching and development. Generations of cricket stars are here because of our women. Now we need our women to be our cricket stars. We can’t undo the past, but we can shape the future. WE do what we do today in cricket, for what will happen TOMORROW.
