JOHANNESBURG: As the Hollywoodbets Pro Series continued on Saturday, DP World Lions secured a 42-run victory over the Garden Route Badgers Women at Dobsonville Oval, claiming a valuable bonus point in the process.
Meanwhile, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies enjoyed a successful trip to JB Marks Oval, claiming an emphatic eight-wicket victory over the North-West Dragons in the Hollywoodbets Pro50.
At SuperSport Park, Fidelity Titans dominated in a rain-shortened clash, cruising to an eight-wicket victory over World Sports Betting Western Province Women in a 33-over contest.
The Durban-based side returned to action as Dragons won the toss and elected to bat on their home ground. The hosts, however, failed to make a meaningful impact with the bat and were bowled out for 123 in 44.2 overs.
Despite contributions of 24 runs from Jane Winster and 20 runs from Phebe Molkenboer, the Dragons struggled to build meaningful partnerships as the Dolphins bowlers tightened their grip on the match.
Nobulumko Baneti starred with an impressive 3/20, while Zintle Mali (2/17) and Seshnie Naidu (2/19) provided strong support to leave the visitors chasing a modest 124.
The Dolphins made light work of the target, cruising to 127/2 in 30.5 overs. Courtney Gounden led the charge with a commanding 66, while Nondumiso Shangase and Yasmeen Khan contributed 24 each to seal a composed and clinical victory.
In Centurion, Western Province won the toss and elected to bat, but after a delay interrupted proceedings, the Cape-based side could only post 163/5. Former South Africa U-19 captain Oluhle Siyo anchored the innings with a well-played 65, while skipper Leah Jones added an unbeaten 47* to steady the total.
The chase at SuperSport Park proved straightforward for the Pretoria outfit. An unbeaten 87 off 74 balls from the opening batter Miane Smit laid the foundation, with Anneke Bosch providing brisk support with 32 off 19 deliveries. The Titans raced to 172/2 in 28.1 overs, sealing a comfortable and clinical win on home soil.
In another rain-affected encounter, the Badgers Women won the toss and opted to bowl first, but the decision did not yield the desired outcome as the home side posted 184/9 in their 50 overs. Razeena Manack (34) and Sunette Viljoen-Louw (33) made important contributions to anchor the innings.
In reply, the Badgers Women side struggled to keep pace with the required rate as rain interruptions further complicated their chase. They were eventually bowled out for 99 in 27 overs, falling well short of the target.
Proteas Women seamer, Tumi Sekhukhune, starred with a superb 3/7, delivering a decisive spell that deepened the visitors’ woes and sealed a comprehensive win for the Lions.
Lions Women strengthened their position at the top of the standings, and Dolphins Ladies remain in close pursuit in second place.
