The 1Day Cup is the main domestic limited-overs cricket tournament in the country. Played in a 50-over format, the competition began in the early 1980s when the one-day cricket global revolution took place.
It was first popularly known as the Benson and Hedges Series and has undergone several name changes and structural reforms over the years. Today, it features the 15 provincial teams split into two divisions, with Division 1 matches holding official List A status.
The tournament uses a round-robin format followed by playoffs and matches are often staged as day-night games to attract larger crowds. Historically, the event shifted from a provincial system to a franchise model in 2004, before returning to provincial teams in 2021. The 1Day Cup remains a crucial platform for developing talent and preparing players for international cricket.
